3 Reasons Why You Should Track Your Cycle

  1. Tracking your cycle will empower you

What is empowerment? Empowerment is actually moving from effect to cause. With this formula for success, I want you to picture a letter C. Then I want you to imagine an arrow, one of those arrows that are greater or less than, and I want you to imagine the one that is greater. Then I want you to visualize an E on the other side of that arrow. What we've got here is cause is greater than effect. What this means is that when you live your life in effect, you're actually working in a disempowering way. You're actually putting yourself on a back foot. When you live in effect, you're allowing situations to happen to you. You are giving your power away. You are making excuses. You are complaining. You're always finding reasons as to why things aren't working out for you. This is disempowering.

What you want to do is grab an imaginary big red marker and I want you to cross that E out. Then get a green marker and draw an arrow from the E right over to the C. Circle the C and say yes, I'm going to be living at cause. When you live at cause what you're doing is taking back your control. What you're doing is operating from psychology and physiology of excellence. What you're doing is putting the power back in your hands, putting yourself back in the driving seat, and asking yourself whenever things aren't going quite right how am I at cause for this? How can I change things? You are the creator of your own reality. Anytime that you feel that life is throwing you a curveball, ask yourself, how am I at cause?

You may be wondering, what the hell does this have to do with me tracking my cycle? This has everything to do with you tracking your cycle. I want to explain to you that you should be tracking your cycle because what does it do, it puts you at cause. It gives you the results that you're looking for instead of the reasons as to why things aren't working out in your cycle, or why you're experiencing PMS. You're having a shitty time with your period. Living at cause is tracking your cycle or tracking your cycle is living at cause. What that is is a formula for success and empowerment.

I hope you're following along. It's so easy for you to say yeah, yeah, I'm tracking my cycle I've got a period app. I've heard so many people say that. I've got a period app. And I'm like, okay great, so what day of your cycle are you on? They are like umm? I'm not quite sure you know, and I think, okay, having a period app is no good if you're not engaging with it. It's like buying a subscription to a newspaper and not actually sitting down to read the newspapers. It makes zero sense. Sooner or later, you're going to realize that you're just wasting your time. What you need to remember is that you don't have to necessarily be tracking your cycle, every single day to the tee. I want you just started developing an awareness of your cycle. That is how tracking your cycle begins.

You might notice if you do track your cycle, how good you feel when you know that you are approaching your ovulation phase. That time when you're suddenly having so much more energy and you feel like your skin looks good, your hair looks good, your beauty looks good, effortless good. You are smiling at strangers on the street. Then you might notice the sensation in your body when you're tracking your cycle as you're approaching your PMS phase. You start getting those cramps. You start getting those little headaches. How empowering is it to know this information? I want you to live at cause because, at the end of the day, nobody is responsible for your life but you. You're experiencing something in your life right now and it's affecting you in a way and you're not doing anything about it. You're choosing to live in effect, then that's what you're choosing. Wherever you're not changing you are choosing.

2. You won’t be caught off guard when something happens.

Why it's important for you to track your cycle is so you won't get caught off guard when something happens. You won't get caught off guard if life suddenly throws you a curveball and you're already in your PMS phase. You have a better understanding of your unique body rhythms and the patterns and whatever's going on so you can deal with it more effectively.

Let's talk about how you can start tracking your cycle. First of all, there are loads of apps on the internet and within the app store or whatever Play Store, whatever phone you've got, that you can use, and you can download. My personal favorites are the Clue app, that's c l u e. I have dropped all of the resources that I mentioned in the show notes, and also, Moody Month. Moody Month is another one. Those are the ones that I use as my digital trackers. I also use a period calendar, which is a really old-school app. I'm not quite sure if it's just called the period calendar. This one allows me to see what day of my cycle I'm on without me having to kind of count forward. Those are the ones I would recommend. What I really recommend is having a bit of paper, a diary, or a cycle tracker graph. I actually have one and I'll pop the link to that in the show notes as well. You can download for free and you can print out and keep it in your diary.

I really do think that having a pen and paper method like a journal or actually just writing down a few keywords a day is the best way to move forward with tracking your cycle because you're engaging with it. You're actually asking your mind or you're actually asking your body, what do I need right now? I've actually got some journal prompts that I'll be bringing out so keep your eyes out for that, on how you can start asking your body each and every day how you're feeling mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually. What does your body need right now?

If you don't practice cycle awareness or tracking your cycle, then you know what's going to happen, it's going to be left in like a kind of a whirlwind of what the hell is going on. You're missing out. You're missing out on potential and opportunities. You're missing out on so many possibilities because your head is full of all of this information that's going on and you're not actually getting it out of your head and down on paper or down in your app. Then it can become quite challenging. What you're doing is you're missing out on being able to use your cycle powers.

What I find is that I feel a lot more grounded within myself when I'm tracking my cycle. I know it's day 10 of my cycle and I'm able to get a bunch of work done or it’s day 21 of my cycle and I need to kind of ease up a bit and give myself a bit of a self-care day. Just like Meditation, the simple act of just getting to know your menstrual cycle, just recording it and charting it, its progression. It takes practice. It allows you to build this more mindfulness in your life but you need to do it on a daily basis. Just get in a period app tracker and let it sit there. Put your cycle in once and kind of build-up.

3. You will have a better understanding of your unique body rhythms and patterns

You're going to be left feeling like how is this working for me. As you do engage with your tracker or your app or your journal, you will begin to feel and respond naturally to how your moods are changing every day. How your energy is changing throughout your cycle. You'll be able to be more compassionate to yourself, have more warmth, be more flexible, and give yourself more choices and options. What's been so amazing for me is that I'm able to use this to really help build my business and to help me have more flow in my business and have more success in my business because I track my cycle around important events and around my sales calendar. You might notice or you might think, okay that sounds strange how'd you do that? You live your whole life around your cycle but as I said it opens up so much more possibility and potential for you. You're not left thinking each month, oh shit, I wish I'd known that I was coming on my period this day or I'm not really feeling so confident today and I've got a meeting. You're able to book in your meetings and public speaking engagements or the days that you want to be left to yourself. You can schedule that all around your cycle.
