5 Secrets to Your Period Power to Manage Your Energy

1. Remind yourself that everything is energy

This is what I've actually put in my bio on my Instagram and it's something that I have to remind myself every single day. Everything is energy. Of course, none of this has been taught to us. None of this has been taught to us whilst we're at school. Our culture tells us that the more we do, the more we're to be valued and that's how worthy we are but let me just explain something. So if you were to follow the timing of your inner seasons, which works to your advantage. It's a second clock, instead of you blindly following this 24-hour clock that I was talking about. That's the 24-hour clock is part of the patriarchal system anyway, which has prevented us from listening in and tuning into our cyclical wisdom. We've ignored our cyclical wisdom. We're able to have more energy, we're able to have a lot less stress and that's what we want. We want more energy, less stress, we want to be able to feel divine, aligned, grounded focus, clear, intuitive, motivated. Those are things that you want to feel. We weren't taught this.

When we were younger, our culture told us that the more we do, the more valuable we are, and the more worthy we are and that's just not true. That is just a big fat lie. You might agree now that you're starting to see and connects the dots to this cultural conditioning that we have for nonstop productivity that goes completely against our natural biology and our rhythms.

2. Control stress

Think of how amazing you'll feel when you take control of stress instead of letting it control you. You may or may not have heard of cortisol, which is the stress hormone. Cortisol is the body's primary stress hormone and it's secreted from your adrenal glands, which is the foundation of your hormonal balancing. When this happens, it messes with your ovulation. Remember I said when you ovulate you produce progesterone. So if you're not ovulating, it messes ovulation. We can't produce progesterone. It reduces progesterone levels. It shrinks your sex drive and causes fertility problems when you’re stressed out. Small doses of cortisol are a good thing but high chronic background, all the time, background stress going on all the time, is not a good thing.

Cortisol is also responsible for controlling your blood sugar levels, again, the foundation of your hormonal balancing, and making sure that we have the right levels so that we can prevent heart disease or diabetes or anything like that. When we're stressed our body increases its cortisol output and this gives our body energy that's blood sugar. This is where our adrenals can actually contribute to anxiety. So the reason I'm telling you this is because when it starts producing excess cortisol, it produces these two things here, epinephrine and norepinephrine, which you probably know as adrenaline. That's a good thing but no one wants to be running on adrenaline all the time. When you're running on adrenaline all the time, you know what happens, I don't have to tell you what happens when you're running on adrenaline all the time. Adrenalin in small amounts is great. But background chronic stress, like I've been mentioning, messes with your hormonal health and takes you away from your biologies, rhythms, and patterns.

So I want to ask you this then, so isn't it about time that you became the boss of your periods instead of letting it boss you? Because you deserve to know that your menstrual cycle is your actual superpower. It really is, and your higher self has been waiting way too long. It waited way too long for me. I'm so happy I'm in this place right now. So I just want to let you know, just you can give yourself permission to chill the heck out, like chill out. Not everything has to be accomplished in a day. Not everything has to be accomplished in a week. We've got a whole 28 days to access this incredible power and these superpowers and the strengths that we have. When we harness this power, we are living in flow instead of living in control. We release the need to control and start working with our rhythms. Our rhythms actually work as our own internal self-care guide as well.

Here are a few tips to get you started, start tracking your cycle as soon as possible like yesterday. If you're not doing it already, start tracking it right now. What you want to do is make a note of the very first day of your period and count forward what day you're on. So I'm on day five of my cycle, which means I started my period my full flow bleed five days ago so we're not talking about spotting. We're talking about when you actually need to use a period care product or maybe use a cup, pad, maybe you free bleed, who knows. But you know, full-flow blood is the day that you start counting as day one. Use this phase to commit to resting and restoring as I said.

3. Be kind to yourself

It's really cool to be kind to yourself. There are studies that have shown that the way that we talk to ourselves actually influences whether or not we're going to get depression or anxiety and of course, our hormones then start becoming out of whack. We experience inflammation and all of these things so it's really important to understand how to use your mind, reprogram your subconscious mind because that's the one that's in the driver's seat and start rewiring it with empowering and expansive thoughts.

4. Use adaptogenic herbs

Adaptogens are a group of herbs known for their enhancement of your adrenal function, The adrenals are the foundation of your hormonal balancing. Being able to improve and enhance your adrenal function means that you have a better immune system, you have better mental clarity and endurance, and better physical endurance as well. How adaptogens actually work is they work by the way of the HPA axis. That's actually how your brain and your adrenals talk to each other. This can really help balance the amount of that stress hormone that you're pumping out.

5. Manage your energy

Use your time and your energy wisely and ask yourself the following questions. Am I getting enough rest? Did I get my 8-hour sleep yesterday? Am I skipping meals? Am I eating nutritiously? Am I saying yes to things when I really want to say no, be honest with yourself here? So those are a couple of ways that you can start managing your energy, obviously these like really quick tips to get you started.

Start scheduling your tasks and your to-do’s based on where you're at in your cycle.
